GUIDED CALCULATOR

EV vs. Gas Savings Calculator

Compare EV electricity cost with gasoline cost using the mileage, efficiency, and energy prices you choose. AutoUnite does not convert MPG into EV efficiency or invent local energy prices.

Question 1 of 7

YOUR VEHICLE

Choose the vehicles for this comparison

We'll use available vehicle details to help with this estimate. Prices, financing or lease terms, taxes, fees, and offers still need to be confirmed.

Enter the mileage, vehicle efficiency, and energy prices you want to compare. No generic MPG, EV efficiency, gasoline price, or electricity rate is preloaded.

How the EV vs. Gas Savings Calculator works

Compare electricity and gasoline cost on the same mileage and ownership horizon. The calculation keeps EV efficiency, gas MPG, electricity price, and fuel price separate so one assumption is never silently converted into another.

What you need to get started

This calculator uses the following inputs to build an estimate. Check your own agreement or quote when a rate, fee, or contract value is required.

  • Annual miles
  • Ownership horizon (years)
  • EV kWh per 100 miles
  • Electricity rate ($/kWh)
  • Gas MPG
  • Gas price ($/gallon)

You can also refine your scenario with information such as EV other annual operating cost, Gas other annual operating cost. Enter details only when known; an unknown fee, rate, or benefit is not automatically zero.

How the estimate is built

  1. Choose the annual mileage and ownership horizon both paths will share.
  2. Enter the EV efficiency in kWh per 100 miles and the electricity price you want to model.
  3. Enter the gasoline vehicle MPG and fuel price you want to model.
  4. Optionally add other annual operating-cost differences, then review the modeled annual and horizon costs without treating them as a recommendation.

Example

Two vehicles can be compared over five years using the same annual mileage while preserving different efficiency units and energy prices. Changing electricity or gasoline price updates the modeled cost difference without claiming either price will stay constant.

Common EV versus gas operating cost questions

Does this calculator assume a national gas or electricity price?

No. You enter the prices you want to model unless an applicable connected source is available.

Does AutoUnite convert MPG into EV efficiency?

No. MPG and kWh per 100 miles describe different energy systems and remain separate inputs.

Is the lower modeled energy cost the better vehicle?

No. The result describes only the costs included in this scenario and does not make a vehicle recommendation.

Can maintenance or insurance differences be included?

Yes as optional annual scenario amounts. Unknown differences remain outside the calculation rather than becoming zero.

Are future fuel or electricity prices guaranteed?

No. Price inputs are scenario assumptions and can be changed to test different outcomes.
